Ball Busters Keep on Bustin'....

by Jeff 6/28/2010 2:48:00 AM
Ball Busters Keep on Bustin'.... With fresh attitudes and some fresh faces your Ball Busters took the field Friday night looking to continue its recent surge of consistent offense and determined, flawless defense.  Friday night was no exception.  With an unannounced appearance by Boss Bachrach who delayed his Friday night sojourn out east to lend support to his rising team; the Ball Busters did not disappoint.  With a thorough thrashing of our opponents Centro Properties by a score of 10-1, the Ball Busters are now confident that a playoff appearance is well within reason.  Such thoughts just a few weeks ago would have seemed foolhardy.  Not now.  Not with this team.  Not when you get consistent hitting throughout the lineup and stellar defensive fielding that shuts down every hint of a rally by our opponent.  Other than one error in the early going that resulted in one run scored by our opponent, from the second inning on no runner got any further than second base.  A remarkable achievement in a softball game.  Again, as circumstances dictated, we auditioned four new players to help the cause and field a complete team.  With some of our regulars unavailable to play, Shannon, Katie (Matt Conroy’s sister) Vincent and our own Matt Shapiro donned the Bachrach blues and all contributed to the resounding victory. It seems that every week someone else steps up to the plate and delivers in the clutch.  However, for someone to have the chance to hit that huge bases-clearing homerun there has to be someone on the bases to begin with.  All season that catalyst has been Jeff Segal.  Friday night was no different.  Jeff went 4-4 Friday night spraying line drive hits to all fields and with his deceptive speed and unorthodox style of running, creating havoc for the defense and even getting purposely caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd base and with the confusion he created eventually resulting in two more runs being scored.  You definitely hold your breath when Jeff pulls one of these stunts but, in the end, they mostly work out.  Sports, like recruiting, is about delivery.  Jeff Segal delivers.  Bravo Jeff!Such was the case in the first inning Friday night when Segal stepped to the plate.  Hitting a shot to the left center field gap, Jeff got us off and running and by the time the first inning was over, the winning runs had already been scored.  We eventually loaded the bases for The Man of the night to step to the plate.  Larry Villar, coming off a stellar 3-deal week in the office, was about to let his good-fortune and hard work at his desk transcend to the baseball diamond.  With great dramatic flair with the bases loaded and two outs and a full count, Larry smashed a towering homerun to right field that made the now infamous crowds that gather deep in right field to sunbath scatter for their lives.  By the time the right fielder caught up to the ball, Larry was already rounding third base and trotted home with ease.  That’s right, a Grand Slam!  A Grand Salami!  A four bagger!  Just like that we were up 4-0 and this time we would not relinquish the lead.  Bravo Larry. Offense was only half of the story this night.  Our defense might have played its most complete shut down effort of the year.  Again it started with Jeff Segal.  Accounting for the most defensive put outs in the game, every smash down the left field line that seemed to have a promising future would die tragically in the bottom of Jeff’s glove. In a moment of honest objectivity Jeff said to me after the game that he “finally feels comfortable out in left field”.  In softball, left field becomes the position that fields the majority of balls hit to the outfield; so it becomes a critical defensive position.  Jeff, you’ve got it down! Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the continued wizardry of Oliver Hernandez in center field.  His defensive gems are so commonplace that sometimes they go overlooked.  Not Friday night.  He has the speed of a gazelle and is flawless in his execution.  Friday night he had four putouts that, once again, would not allow the opposition any momentum.  If Oliver doesn’t make those catches, the game could get very interesting.  Bravo Oliver. Finally, I would like to speak about the Women of Bachrach.  We have mixed and matched a variety of players this year based on availability.  This band of women have included Lauren, Alex, Kim, Katie, Alicia, Barbara, Naomi, Shannon and Danielle. The most prolific and versatile female player we had has been Lauren Haak.  We have asked a lot of Lauren throughout the year.  She has played 3rd base, 2nd base, short field and catcher.  Not an easy task when you don't know each week where you are going to play.  She has had superb games and a game or two when she got roughed up but she always arrives with an outstanding attitude.  She does everything she can to help the team win and is an excellent hitter.  She is the cornerstone of our female contingency.  Bravo Lauren!  Two new faces shined on Friday night.  One is Matt’s sister, Katie, who is one helluva ballplayer.  Keeping in the Conroy family tradition, Katie scorched hit after hit Friday night that made her brother and the rest of the Ball Busters very proud.  Bravo Katie!  Then there’s Shannon.  Arriving in NYC just three weeks ago from Santa Barbara, California Shannon is thrilled to be in the Big Apple.  How Segal recruited Shannon and knew she was available is beyond me but there she was Friday night on the field and ready to play and impress.  And impress she did.  Making a sliding one handed back handed stop of a ground ball smashed to 2nd base, Shannon fired a laser to first base to get their fastest runner.  Bravo Shannon!  Naomi returned for her second game and is an exceptional softballer.  With a rocket for an arm and an outstanding hitter, Naomi showed brightest in right field Friday night.  On one play, a line drive was smashed to right field and its low trajectory found Naomi charging trying to make a one-handed catch.  After what seemed to be a spectacular grab, somehow the ball squeezed out of her mitt and fell to the ground as Naomi did the same.  The attempt was amazing enough and although she did not get the result she wanted, Naomi deserves all the accolades for a spectacular try.  Just being in the right position on that ball proved for everyone to see her athleticism.  Bravo Naomi!  With the return of Barbara this week for our all important double-header on Wednesday night, I think we will field our strongest female team ever!!So that’s it.  With another resounding victory in the books, we take a whole lot of momentum and confidence into our big double-header showdown Wednesday night.  That confidence and enthusiasm spilled over into an Irish pub on Friday night where we celebrated our victory for several hours.  We were joined there by our sole supporter at the game in Jeff Segal’s girlfriend Nicole who fit right into the camaraderie we all shared.  By the dozen or so lip locks she put on Segal in the Pub, I guess she was pretty pleased with Jeff’s efforts on the field as well!  There were some other negotiations in the Pub as well with front-men and wing men and even wing women doing their best to do what we do best….create opportunities and close deals!!  But that story will remain in the clubhouse for now.  At this point, I believe we are all keepers of the faith.  Even Boss Bachrach, I believe, was duly impressed with our efforts.  To be continued…..Jeff

Ball Busters Stage Amazing Comeback

by Jeff 6/17/2010 1:51:00 AM

Ball Busters Stage Amazing Comeback!!

Prospects did not look good.  We were playing a team with only one loss all season.  That loss came via the first place team that, at the time, had no losses.  On top of that we had our usual logistical problems with not having enough women to play and if not for the fancy footwork and considerable recruiting efforts of Jeff Segal; it seemed that we were bound to start the game a woman short and subsequently incur an automatic out every time that person’s slot in the batting order came up.  A similar fate we were not able to survive just a few weeks ago.  Then the umpire decided to enforce the league regulation team uniform rule that has yet to be enforced this year and that would have started each batter on our team without a regulation “Ball Busters” tee-shirt with an automatic two strikes.  That’s worse then the automatic out rule.  However, we noticed a number of their players without their regulation tee-shirts so we called it a draw.  Because Segal was able to recruit two women to join our efforts, Barbara Serbes and Naomi Greckol-Herlich, we were able to field a complete team and at least start the game on a level playing field.

Then it got worse.  Our opposition, the Broadway Ballers, started by scoring 2 runs in the first inning, 2 runs in the second inning and then 3 more in the fourth inning when Jeff Segal allowed a ball to get passed him.  Things looked bleak.  We were down 7-0 to a team that seemed to be firing on all cylinders with strong hitting and a skilled defensive team that was keeping us off the bases.  Then came one of those moments that have the ability to change a team’s fortune and possibly their outlook on the entire season.  Chris Papa steps to the plate with a man on first and two outs.  The way we had been knocked down like bowling pins each inning and with no momentum on our side it would have been difficult to foresee what was about to happen.  Papa hits a long drive to the right-center field gap and what we originally thought was going to be a long out turned into a monstrous homerun that breathed a little life back into team and perhaps a glimmer of hope that we still had a chance.

Nerves were high because we were still down five runs with only two innings remaining and they had a formidable offensive team.  We did not shrink from the challenge.  With the Papa home-run still fresh in our minds the Ball Busters started to display the defensive wizardry that we had in the beginning of the season that now seemed like ages ago.  One of our newest recruits, Barbara, playing a stellar second base started it all with a very smooth 4-6-3 double play that was our first of the year and then the following inning I started another 1-6-3 double play that got us out of another inning.  However we were still down 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th and time was running out.  Another new recruit, Naomi, stepped to the plate and rocketed a double down the 3rd base line that stirred the drink that was about to pour out a barrage of hits.  Matt, Alex (yes Alex), Larry, Segal, Barbara, James and Jason all came up to the plate and delivered base hit after base hit. 7-3….then 7-5 and then finally 7-7 the game was tied going into the last inning.  Such new found riches!!  We did not know what to make of it.  We could actually win this game.  Other teams may have folded.  Other teams would not have displayed the steely single-mindedness of a team that still thinks it can make a difference in this league.  Not us.  Not the Ball Busters.  Our defense came ready to play.  First hitter hits a hot shot to our new hero at second base, Barbara, and she slides on one knee scoops up the ball and throws a laser to Matt at first base.  One out.  Next batter hits a line drive to the right-center field gap where our other new hero, Naomi, moving like a bobcat tracks the low line-drive and snags it in the web of her glove.  Two outstanding plays and now two outs.  Papa, now in relief of a tiring JMac, filling in sensationally as a reliever and making it very difficult for their hitters to get a true read on the ball.  Next batter hits a scorching line drive down the left field line that looked like a triple for sure.  Not today.  Our leftfielder, Jeff Segal, looking to make amends for an earlier gaffe broke on the ball like a champ and made a leaping one handed grab that thwarted any hint of a rally.  Inning over and the Ball Busters coming to the plate.

Bottom of the 7th, last inning, score tied and Naomi steps to the plate.  After her last scorching double down the line the opposing pitcher wanted no piece of Naomi and walked her on four pitches.  Segal unselfishly moved Naomi to second on a sacrifice fly.  Now the moment of the game was about to arrive.  The moment the Ball Busters grabbed their dignity back.  The moment when everything seemed possible again in a season marred by missed opportunities.  Matt Conroy steps to the plate.  There would be joy in Mudville tonight.  Mighty Casey would not disappoint.  With a blast reminiscent of Kirk Gibson of the Dodger’s in the 1988 World Series Matt launches a shot that went high and far into the night.  You know when it’s a long home run when the outfielders just turn and watch the ball never bothering to give chase.  Naomi scores easily from second base and an amazing comeback is successfully completed.  Alert the media!  Let the pigeons loose.  Hail the conquering hero.  Last night that was Matt Conroy.  Bravo Matt.

We have a game next week on Friday in Central Park.  That would be June 25th.  We play Centro Properties that are even with us in the standings.  A victory and we are right back in the thick of things as far as the playoff hunt goes.

So that’s it.  What would have sunk our season for sure with a defeat is now our rallying cry for a potential turn around season and a renewed push for a playoff spot.  With our two new found angels, Barbara and Naomi - who committed to playing the rest of the season, we feel we have the right balance to remain competitive and the well-deserved attitude that we can beat anybody!  My faith has been restored.  I am once again a keeper of the faith.  The Goff is now full of souls again.  (What movie?)  (HINT: the number of runs the Broadway Ballers scored is in the title)

Ball Busters Come Up Short

by Jeff 5/18/2010 5:29:00 AM
Ball Busters Come Up Short Momentum was on our side, we were playing a team that was in last place, significant upswing within the divisional leader board was there for the taking and we took a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th inning in a 7 inning game.  The sun seemed to be shining on this gloomy night, the path to victory seemed assured and our spirits were high.  Then the unthinkable happened.  As far as I could see there was no Near Earth Object hurtling towards the Great Lawn of Central Park, there were no Alien sightings with glove piercing lasers or blinding ray guns that made it impossible for the Ball Busters to field their positions or a nearby telephone booth that the McGarry Bowen team ran into to change into Super Heroes.  We just fell apart at the worst possible time and let a clearly inferior team score 8 big fat runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to take a 9-5 lead culminating with a Grand Slam homerun that shook the Ball Busters franchise to its core.  Did we try a valiant comeback in the final innings to try and recapture the lead we so brazenly took in the first 5 innings; of course we did.  Bottom of the 7th and down to our last three outs, the Ball Busters tried one more time to exorcize the demons of the 5th inning and we got close.  We cut the deficit to 9-6 and had runners in scoring position when our appetite for scoring runs allowed us to be too free wheeling with the base runners and the managers of the team (all of us) made some ill-fated decisions that sealed the Ball Buster defeat and took any hope of a comeback away.  We take full responsibility that. In the end the score remained the same and we were defeated 9-6.  A humbling defeat after thinking we were moving forward with another victory and moving up in the standings.  However, someone said last night that we win as a team and we lose as a team.  No finger pointing here.  Were there balls that should been caught?  Could we have hit better?  With a little luck could an umpire’s call have gone either way?  The answers to all these questions are a resounding yes; but that would just be belly-aching and what-iffing and no body wants to hear that.  We have 10 days off to recoup and get beyond this loss.  Is it the end of the season?  Is it over?  Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?  Hell No!! J  We will rebound and be ready for the next opponent. Game BallsSo maybe no Game Balls should be awarded in defeat but there were still significant contributions to the cause even if our collective effort came up short.  Jeff remained our catalyst by getting on base almost every time and turning three singles into doubles by just being aggressive on the base paths and using his God-given speed.  Matt clobbered another two-run homerun.  Larry made a triple out of single by just using his pure speed.  Alan kept us in the game long enough for us to win and when you are winning 5-1 in the 5th and lose; its defense not pitching.  Kim scored her first RBI of the season in her first appearance of the season by driving in a run in the 5th inning.  Alex and Ray Ray showed steady improvement with the bat and Jules played an expert right field and began a three person relay throw from right field that resulted in throwing a runner out at 2nd base.  James made an outstanding catch in left field on a bomb rocketed off the bat of their best hitter.  Jason, the professional designated hitter, actually played 3rd base for half the game and represented very well.  We came away with four pulled hamstrings including James, Oliver, Ray Ray and Jeff Segal that really hampered our mobility in the final innings but they all gutted it through to the end.   So that’s it.  A numbing defeat but there were parts of our effort from last night that we can build on.  This is no time to sit under a tree and sulk.  10 days.  That’s the marching orders.  10 days to put this behind us and get ready to play again.  The Park will be there….will we??? Jeff

Ball Buster’s Bounce Back!!

by Jeff 5/17/2010 5:11:00 AM
Ball Buster’s Bounce Back!!No base running lapses, no errors, no 9th inning desperation rally’s or “we lost the game but we’ll win the fight” attitude needed this day…..just pure domination in pure Bachrach Ball Buster fashion.  What a difference a week makes!  We were winning 6-0 before anyone broke a sweat and the Ball Buster’s were victorious and a walk away win with a score of 8-3 that was no indication of how dominant the Ball Buster victory truly was.  With excellent hitting, superb base running, stellar defense and a shutdown pitching performance from Mr. Ageman the outcome of the game was never in doubt.  The Seaport team was no fluke team either.  They could hit very well, played strong defense and their woman represented very well with some surprising hitting skills; it’s just we played better and in key situations we executed and they did not.  So we evened our record at 2-2 and played ourselves right back into contention in a very competitive division 2 field that promises to remain a toss up for the remainder of the season.  We had some new hero’s last night that have cemented their spot on the roster and some new faces that contributed to our victory and we are very grateful for their presence in helping us field a complete team.   All in all in was another great night in the Park and a good time was had by all.  In keeping with tradition Game Balls must be awarded. Ball Buster Game Balls MVP Game Ball – Jeff Segal.   Jeff is our leadoff man and last night he was our catalyst.  Having a perfect 3-3 night at the plate last night spraying hits to all fields and stretching singles into doubles with his aggressive base running; Jeff was the perfect lead off man.  He scored every time he was on base and jump started our night to victory.  He was no less spectacular in left field where he made three outstanding catches that snuffed out any hint of a rally by the Seaport.  Last night was Jeff Segal’s night and he really deserves the accolades.  The only problem I have now will be fitting his head through the elevator doors after he reads this!!!  Bravo, Jeff!CY Young Game Ball - Allan Ageman.  Allan was in “the zone” last night.  One of the best complete game efforts I have seen in a long time.  Every pitch seemed to find the back of the strike zone and he kept a very good hitting team swinging off the back of their heals all night.  He struck out 4-5 batters, fielded his position very well and drove in a few runs.  A complete performance from a complete player.  Bravo, Allan!Babe Ruth Game Ball – Matt Conroy.  With his classic Ruthian swing, Matt answered the bell again last night.  Lifting a two-run homerun high into the night, Matt clobbered a two strike pitch whose trajectory could have brought down rain.  As he rounded the bases and strolled across home plate,  Matt tipped his hat to the adoring crowd and shouted into the announcers microphone covering the game…”That one’s for you Johnny!!” hoping to reach the ears of the little boy Matt visited in the hospital prior to the game.  Okay, of course, most of that never happened but Matt’s good nature makes it not that much of a stretch.  However, Matt did hit a monstrous home run that was the deciding factor in the game.  Bravo Matt.Derek Jeter Game Ball: Larry Villar.  Larry put on another, starting to sound repetitious, clinic at short stop.  I don’t know another way to put it.  He fields the ball as smooth as anyone and he sizes up each runner so he knows whether to give it a toss across the diamond or bring the Louisiana Lighting.  All his throws were perfect last night except one.  On that throw, Matt made a great backhanded stop and although they didn’t get the runner, they prevented another runner from scoring.  Small plays with big impact on the outcome of the game.  Bravo Larry.  Gold Glove Game Ball: Lauren Haak  Playing 3rd base is beginning to look really good on Lauren.  She has settled in nicely to her new responsibilities and has become a force at third base.  She fielded all plays to her last night cleanly and made a real nice play on a top-heavy spinning pop up that sizzled into her glove for the last out of an inning that prevented the Seaport from yet another rally.  At the plate, Lauren was her usual hitting-machine self.  Lauren is turning into a real quality ballplayer and has the early lead on Ball Buster female player of the year!  On another note that did not go unnoticed by this manager, Lauren spent an inordinate amount of time with Dani (see below) on the fundamentals of softball; showing her how to hit and field.  Just another revelation of Lauren’s true character and selflessness.  Bravo Lauren!Joe Torre Game Ball: Brian Powe.  With all the razzing that Brian gets and even if most of it is well deserved, I would be remiss in denying he had an impact on last night’s game and has had an impact on the team as a whole.  Say what you will, but Brian comes to every game, supports our efforts more than anyone else and last night did an outstanding job coaching first base and helping the base runners find their mark.  With Segal and others on base what seemed like every inning, Powe was instrumental in helping stretch singles into doubles and preventing runners from going too far.  All kidding aside, he is a big fan of the team just with his presence and we all appreciate it.  Bravo Brian!Vlad Guerrero DH Game Ball:  Jason Taxier.  Jason is the consummate team player.  He comes to each game and is used as our designated hitter.  A tough role to fill when you just hit and don’t get a chance to play the field.  Is he happy about that fact?  Of course not.  But Jason goes about his business and keeps his frustrations to himself (well most of the time - J) and just drives in runs.  Sometimes in bunches.  Last night was no exception.  With the outcome of the came still in question before the Ruthian blast, Jason came up with two outs and bases loaded and lined a single past the outstretched hands of a very capable short stop.  Drove two runs in and we were on our way.  I see more playing time in your future, Jason.  Stay with the program and things will work itself out.  Bravo Jason! Willie Mays Game Ball: Oliver Hernandez.  Oliver is so amazing in centerfield that it’s very hard to capture what it’s like to watch him give chase to a ball driven into the outfield by the written word.   He closes on a ball better than anyone I have every seen.  His speed is legendary and I do believe I saw smoke coming off his sneakers last night.  Two incredible catches in centerfield last night and again thwarted until rally.  Whether it’s lateral or vertical movement, Oliver is a blur that always makes the catch.  Another quality hitting performance last night and if you think you are impressed with his closing speed in the outfield, you should see him run the bases!  Art work in progress.  Bravo Oliver! The Not Lacrosse/Softball Game Ball: Dani Schaaevitz.  Dani is the cousin of Alex Roth.  Dani worked for us last summer part time and fit very well into the Bachrach fabric.  Last night she also represented us very well on the field.  Dani is an all-star lacrosse player at the University of Virginia (Richmond) and a first rate human being.  Dani tried her hand at softball last night and did very well.  Didn’t get any tries at short field (she’s probably thankful for that) but she looked great at the plate and very comfortable.  Hit the ball hard and with a little practice could easily be a formidable ballplayer and she can run like the wind.  We hope to see Dani around the office a little more in the coming weeks!  Bravo Dani!Miss Congeniality Game Ball: Alex Roth.  Alex probably gets tired of hearing this but her contributions each week are undeniable.  She goes about her business quietly and with little fanfare but she is the underlying glue that holds this team together.  She makes sure we always have enough players (see Dani) and that everyone knows where we are going and what we need.  She is always one step ahead of me; making sure everything and everyone are accounted for.  Besides that, she is the other half of the battery that accounts for our dynamic Pitching/Catching tandem.   Consummate team player, great catcher and actually got on base a couple of times last night.  Bravo Alex! I’ve Got Some ’Tude Game Ball: Heather Ray Hatton.  Ray Ray was another last minute fill in that saves our collective butts.  Ray Ray played 2nd base last night and for someone that does not play organized softball; she knew where to play and more importantly what to do when the ball was hit to our defense.  However, what Ray Ray brings most is her attitude.  She has no fear and is willing throw down with the best of them.  It would have been interesting to see her at last weeks game.  Thanks for the participation and your support of the collective.  Bravo Ray Ray!    The King is Dead/Long Live the King Game Ball: King James Sammarco.  For the first time in the 3 seasons I have been here, King James had an off night.  He it the ball with authority last night but just got under the ball enough to turn a home run into a long fly out.  I dubbed James, King James, for his propensity to hit the long ball in almost every game we’ve played to date.  This morning King James wanted to distance himself from the King James status but as you can read it fell on deaf ears.  But I will compromise.  King James of last night is dead….long live the new King James!!  After 50 homeruns and 100’s of RBI’s King James is the most prolific hitter on the team and he is allowed one off night.  Bravo James!Fan of the Day Game Ball: Sandy Schaevitz.  Mother of Dani, Aunt of Alex and friend to the Bachrach Group!  Sandy was our sole fan last night and braved the increasingly cool weather to cheer her daughter’s new found team on to victory.  She seemed to genuinely enjoy herself and more importantly green lighted an idea I have.  We thank Sandy for her generous and vocal support and hope to see her at some more Ball Buster victories!!!So that’s it.  We have evened our record and put us in a position to be competitive and fight for the title for the rest of the season.  What more can you ask for.  I continue be a keeper of the faith.   As always any day that ends playing softball in Central Park is a damn good day!! Jeff

Ball Busters Band Together

by Jeff 5/17/2010 5:05:00 AM
Ball Busters Band Together We limped into Randall’s Island last shorthanded.  We were only able to field three woman and six men and that left us one person short.  One person short in the field and one person short at bat.  That constitutes one automatic out each time through the line-up and a complete full inning of outs (3) during a seven inning game which makes for quite a handicap.  Not to mention the logistical nightmare that occurs when you are trying to position players short one fielder.  Needless to say, we came up short.  The final score was 13-6 but that does not tell the complete story of this game.  More on that later.  The umpiring in this game was inconsistent at least and flat out horrible at worst; even if the umpire himself was likeable.  More on that later.  It was 6-0 before we knew what hit us and although we had one valiant comeback to rally the score to 6-4, in the end, they scored a few more runs on our depleted defense in the late innings and won the game going away.  However, in the ashes of defeat a new team arose last night and stood its ground in complete defiance.  It is in honor of that conviction we move on to awarding the Game Balls or to paint a finer point on it….The Game Ball. Game Balls Yes I could award game balls to everyone like I did last Friday.  As usual Larry put on a clinic at shortstop and hit another homerun.  King James played an exceptional right field and hit another homerun.  Matt was sensational at first base getting the front end of 3 reverse double-plays and hit with his usual array of all fields.  Segal played well in left field and running in to catch when the situation called for it and then back out to left.  Oliver was his usual fleet of foot on the bases as well as center field.  Lauren anchored third base and hit a shot down the third base line that would have made Derek Jeter proud.  An under-the-weather Juliana fought the flu and a pre-game softball to the noggin’ to play outstanding as our substitute catcher.  Allan under duress the entire game trying to throw strikes to an umpire that seemed to make the rules up as he went along fought valiantly to keep us in the game and give us an opportunity to win.  We were so depleted we had Powe coaching first base in his suit!!  And he did a good job.    Alex left the confines of catching and played 2nd base for the first time and actually looked like she belonged even if on one of her hits she slightly ran out of the first base line.   And that’s were the fun began…………Game Ball MVP:  The Ball Busters!  Yes, the entire team.  Tensions started early last night because the Umpire had a completely different interpretation of the rules than either team did.  However, I make no excuses for the poor sportsmanship, belly aching, sissy-whining, foul-mouthed, total loser approach the Gators take to an American tradition as valued as softball.  Their whining and complaining in what seemed like on every pitch slowed the game to a snails pace and set the pressure cooker timer on “ludicrous speed” and it wasn’t long before it was to blow its top.  Welcome to the 4th inning.  Now I’ve been told that I have a tendency to, on occasion, have a short fuse.  Diplomacy is not my strong suit.  However, I will say that I really tried to bite my tongue last night.  I counted to ten.  I walked away.  I counted to 10, again. I sat on the bench and tried to keep score.  But when this jerk of a first baseman picked on Alex (as he was whining about everything) for maybe taking one step outside the base line while running to first and actually cursed at her; well that’s were we drew the line…..Okay, so I’m not sure what we did was right or wrong.  And I’m certainly not trying to turn this into a macho thing.  But, if you were me, and you turned to see the entire dugout empty in seconds to come to my defense with Allan leading the charge…well that is quite a sight.  James, Jeff S., Matt, Jason, Oliver, Lauren, Alex, Julie, Larry, Richard and Powe in his suit, all running through the infield protecting each other was nothing short of magnificent.  We may have lost the game but we came away with something much more valuable.  We came away with a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging and a conviction that we are not going to get pushed around anymore.  We have been collectively getting kicked in the teeth on a professional basis for the last two years.  I have repetitively told my team that if we stick together, when we come out on the side of this economic downturn we will be unstoppable.  Well, the fog is lifting on the economy and maybe last night was our first shot across the bow that we are a family and we are on our way back to profitability and respectability.  Every group was represented on the field last night from Technology, to Finance, to Real Estate to Admin as well as Synetek.  We have a ways to go but at least for me I am a keeper of the faith.Thank you all for taking my back last night.  I am very proud of all of you.  Allan, I won’t forget anytime soon what you did last night.  Thank you. Jeff

The only constant in life is change.  It’s inevitable.  Change we did last Friday night in Central Park.  We fielded no less than 8 players Friday night that did not play and/or were not part of the team last year.  You would think with that lack of familiarity we were destined for defeat.  On the contrary, the Ball Busters put together one of the most complete victories I’ve seen in the three seasons I have been here.  The Ball Busters hit with power throughout the lineup, played staunch defense and when all was said and done the Ball Busters walked away with a convincing 8-3 victory bypassing an overmatched Zagat’s team and the score really wasn’t even that close.  What was actually the best part of the night was the camaraderie of this team that was literally put together 48 hours before the game started.  With Allan and James not available for action and some other untimely departures we scrambled to put this team together.  However, if you were a casual observer of our game Friday night you would have thought this team was together for a whole season.  Everyone had their head in the game and knew what to do if the ball was hit to them.  There were some spectacular plays and a few hiccups but everyone supported each others efforts and at the end of one game, if this is possible, we were a team!   Last year I started what I hoped would become a tradition of awarding Game Balls for key contributions.  I would like to continue that now….. Game Ball Awards   Larry Villar: Clear MVP of Friday night’s game.  Outstanding fielding display at shortstop where base hit after base hit went to into Larry’s glove to die.  No less than 10 chances at shortstop and except one that got away Larry threw strike after strike to Matt at first base to throw out one runner after another.  Great lateral movement through the infield to cut off potential base hits and make timely plays.  His bat spoke loudly as well as he laced double after double down the right field line and was responsible for a good portion of our runs scored.  All around complete game and deserving the game MVP award. Bravo Larry! Matt Conroy:  Walk quietly and carry a big stick!!  I think this applies to Matt whether he is in the office or on the field.  Matt certainly carried a big stick Friday night.  With a thunderous display of power, Matt pounded ball after ball into the outfield gaps Friday night and I’m pretty sure one of those balls is STILL rolling!!  Matt drove in run after run with his bat and provided some nice footwork at first base and knowing how to move around the first base bag to adjust to off-targeted throws.  He must have had 20 put outs a first base!!  Bravo Matt Chris Papa:  When we needed a big hit in the 5th inning to salt the game away, Mr. Papa came through in the clutch.  Wearing his Bermuda shorts and shades Chris looked pretty casual even for a softball setting but when the game was on the line he smashed a two run double that iced the game away and took any hope of a comeback away from Zagat’s.  With Chris’ pregnant wife in attendance as our sole support, the Papa’s walked off the field knowing they did a job well done.  Bravo Chris! Jeff Segal: Maybe we should call him Jeff “it’s not all hype” Segal.  Displaying a quick bat with timely hits and smart base running, Jeff was our lead off man in the lineup and did not disappoint.  He continually plowed the field for the big guns to drive him in.  More importantly, he showed real speed in the outfield going after deeply hit balls and demonstrating the right angle of pursuit.  Jeff almost made the most spectacular catch of the game after a long run that started in left field and ended somewhere in center field.  However, he just couldn’t come up with it in the end. A valiant effort!  Bravo Jeff!  Alicia Wright:  Only being recruited to play 24 hours before the game and not having played organized softball since high school one could say that Alicia was in a tough spot.  Taking over second base responsibilities, Alicia played admirably.  She fielded almost every ball cleanly and knew what base to cover and where to throw the ball when it came to her.  Not always such an easy thing to do when you have a ball hit sharply to you and runners whizzing by.  Alicia is a genuine softball player, a good teammate that has genuine enthusiasm for the game and was a great addition to the team.  Bravo Alicia! Lauren Haak:  Lauren gets the “Purple Heart” medal for taking a shot off her leg and staying in the game to its completion.  4th inning and Matt was trying to throw a runner out from first base across the diamond to Lauren at third.  Matt’s ball got away from him and came in very fast and very low to Lauren as the runner approached.  While trying to tag the runner the ball banged of her leg making a sound that you could clearly hear across the field.  Instead of sitting down, Lauren stayed in the game and gutted it out.  Lauren played solid third base and had some very good swings at the plate.  Bravo Lauren! Juliana Rodrigues: I think it’s fair to say that Juliana’s hitting skills are a work in progress.  However, I have never seen someone stand up to the plate with more confidence than Juliana.  It’s really something to see as she walks up to the plate, winks at the pitcher and throws me the thumbs up coaching first base as if to say “I got this one Jeff”.  Actually, I think she did say that!  Juliana has great bat speed through the strike zone and it’s only a matter of time before she starts lacing singles through the infield.  Bravo Juliana! Alex Roth:  Besides being the hottest catcher in the league, Alex brings more enthusiasm and teamwork than any other individual on the team.  He caught a great game and did all the little things that often go unnoticed such as throwing the ball back to the Pitcher every time so he can stay in his groove.  She is fearless behind the plate and proved it in the 5th inning on a quick pop-up behind the plate that she practically flung herself into the backstop trying to field the foul tip.  The attempt was unsuccessful but the effort was noticed by all.  Bravo Alex! Jason Taxier:  Arguably, Jason played the toughest and most unenviable position Friday night; Right Field.  Beside the unnatural spin the ball takes when it’s hit to right field, Jason also had to contend with a large gathering of mothers and their children who decided to sunbath in right field.  Not only was it a distraction it was dangerous.  Case in point, after a long run to catch a line drive hit down the right field line, Jason caught the ball only to be done in by a youngster that was left unattended by his nonchalant mother.  In trying to avoid the child, Jason dropped the ball.  An unfair legacy to an otherwise solid game fielding and hitting and running the bases.  Bravo Jason! Alex Hernandez:  Not arriving until the 6th inning being held up at work, Alex did not fail to deliver.  His first at bat he stretched what seemed like a single into a triple with the speed of a gazelle!  Alex ran like the wind and eventually scored on Juliana’s RBI.  We could have used Alex all game but we’re sure glad he showed up when he did.  Bravo Alex! Richard Bachrach: Fearless third base coaching.  Richard consistently knew when to hold the runners and when to send them in from third.  Seeing that we scored 8 runs (really 9 but one was disallowed because the runner didn’t slide) Richard had a very successful night.  His leadership of the entire group and caring for some of the wounded was exemplary.  He also prevented the team from any mental breakdowns while the score was still close.  Bravo Richard! So that’s it.  One successful victory does not make a season but it sure beats the hell out of losing.  As I’ve said before, any day that ends playing softball in Central Park is a damn good day.  Especially when you win!! Jeff Jeffrey M. Solus 7 - BBs6

by nick 4/16/2010 3:20:00 AM
Last night your Bachrach BallBusters lost on opening night to a team called Solus by a score of 7-6. It was a typical opening day BallBuster performance, lots of mental mistakes, some untimely errors, and some lack of clutch hitting, but all in all the promise was there and the future looks bright. I walked in this morning to some people who will not be named talking a bit about the lineup or the in game decisions that were made, or the errors. I will say this, this line up has lead the BB's to the playoffs 4 out of 5 years. Our manager lead us to the playoffs in his first year last year. We have many rookies and new players this year who will hopefully add depth and strength to an already powerful roster, but one game is no reason to hit the panic button. The Hallmark of the BB's is consistency.
First off I would like to welcome our newbies. Matt "The NEW Babe, Born Again" Conroy, who has proven to be probably our strongest new ballplayer with a bat and a quiet professionalism to his game that has been sorely missed by this club, Larry "The All American" Villar who played a stellar SS and showed flashes of brilliance with his bat, Jason "String Bean" Taxier, who proved that those skinny legs don't break when he exerts himself, Jeff "NEW Trash Mouth" Segal, who can both run his mouth and his legs, he is fast boy, but if only we could teach him to recognize how many outs there were he might have a future on this team, you can only run on anything with two outs Jeff, good rule to live by. And finally the two ladies, the lovely Julie "people love to coach me on the sidelines" Rodrigues, who adds yet another talent to the most talented group of female ball players in the league, and of course making her triumphant return, Tara "T-Dinero" Horowitz, whose bat and glove have not been hurt by her long vacation, it was good to have her back on the field standing next to me.
At the end of the day the game but not hope was lost. We did not lose because of the errors in the field. I will take the blame for this loss solely on my large, bulky shoulders. With a chance to tie the game, runners on first and second and two out, the mighty Franchise came to the plate. A base hit ties the game, anything else give us the lead, and yours truly hit a weak grounder to the pitcher, ending the rally and the game. The Franchise, never one to run had this to say, "I let the team down plain and simple, opening day jitters and some changes in the lineup rattled me, I assure you the same mistakes will not be made again, it is a long season."
The future is bright my friends, so if you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter.
NOTES AND QUOTES:
Conspicuous by there absence, Kim "Don't call me Bachrach" Antrosiglio, and Alex"Lets get a drink after the game" Roth, conspicuous by being there Brian"I think I'm a coach" Powe, Rich next time there's a game please tell him you need him too stay late.

Season Preview

by nick 4/15/2010 7:37:00 AM
Few things can warm a mans heart as much as opening day. This evening your Bachrach BallBusters take the field for there 5th season of existence. A turbulent offseason has brought many changes to the today's opening day lineup and an opportunity for some new stars to shine. Gone are stalwarts Scott "The Babe" Book and Ali "trash Mouth" McGlincy, starting DH Evan "The Truth" Price is opening the season on the 15 day dl, and Alex "Let's get  a drink after the game" Roth has retired. Now for the good news. Making her triumphant return after missing last season for personal reasons is Tara "T-Money " Horowitz, she will slide nicely into second base and the clean up role vacated by McGlincy. The team will also return starters Nick "The Franchise" Catalano, Allan "Rubber Arm" Ageman, Kelly "White Shoes" Lepore, Jimmy "The Kid" Sammarco, Oliver MAYS, Lauren "The Hack" Haak and Kim "don't call me Bachrach" Antrosiglio. That core along with a host of new faces who will earn there nicknames along the way, make for the beginning of what will be a very exciting season. Can the BallBusters make the playoffs once again for the 4th time in 5 years? Stay tuned, and if you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter!
BREAKING NEWS:
The office of Richard "The Boss" Bachrach has just released this statement:
Dear Fans and Employees of The Bachrach Empire
I want to first thank you for your continued support throughout the years. Hank, Hal and myself look forward to another successful season. With all the turn over on the roster we felt we needed some consistency. To that end we have just signed Jeff "The Freight" Train McLaughlin to a one year contract to manage the BallBusters once again this season. We are sure that this team has the talent to go deep into the playoffs, and Freight Train knows those are our expectations, anything less is unacceptable. Thank you, and Go BallBusters.

End of Year game Balls

by nick 8/5/2009 10:12:00 AM

Unlike my co-writer, I have a different viewpoint then his myopic, woe is us, team insulting, senior citizen, Fat Albert and the sky is falling description of our efforts as a team and individuals last night.  To me, any day in New York City that ends playing softball with people you genuinely like in a park is a damn good day!  It’s that plain and simple.  We played as a team through 14 weeks of miserable playing conditions, Randal’s Island, glass on the field, rainstorms, dust storms, rain delays, lightening, postponements, bathroom drama, potential fights with the other teams, equipment thieves, line-ups filled with ringers, sub-par third base coaching ; ) and poor umpiring and never once did we lose our sense of team.  Occasionally, we got on each other’s nerves, to be sure, (a certain conversation comes to mind from last night! ;)) but we always won and lost as a team.  For me, the best part of a work environment is when you get out from behind your desk and actually do something together outside of these four walls.  For 14 weeks, we did just that.  Bravo to the team for showing up all season long and giving it their best even when, ultimately, our best wasn’t quite good enough.  Many thanks for all those that came to our rescue, in a pinch, when we needed to field a complete team.  And finally to Richard and Allan for allowing us to be children again for a few hours a week.  In recognition of that camaraderie that we shared, I would like to award Season Game Balls to the Bachrach Ball Busters…..

The Starters Team MVP Game Ball:  Scott Book.  Favorite Moment: “After boldly “informing” the manager of a pre-game lineup change that resulted in Mr. Book batting first in the lineup, Scott did not disappoint.   Scott went 3-4 at the plate scorching double after double and was responsible for 6 RBI’s.  Couple that with stellar defensive play including a back-handed catch of a line-drive smashed down the left field line and Scott is the early favorite for MVP of the Bachrach ball busters this season”.  Scott was the clear MVP with a batting average in the 600’s and registering the fewest errors in the field and the most “put-outs” at the plate.  Last night was no exception.  Stellar team player and most deserving of the award.  Bravo Scott

Rookie of the Year Game Ball:  Elizabeth Law.  Favorite Moment:  “First inning playing Short Center.  Elizabeth attempts to field a towering pop-up.  What does Elizabeth and Michael Jackson have in common???  They both wear gloves for no apparent reason.  Coming from Australia, Elizabeth hasn’t learned that the hand the glove is on is actually for catching the ball.  Needless to say, Elizabeth tries to bare-hand the catch and her hand swelled like a mushroom”.   Elizabeth had absolutely no understanding of the game of softball, yet that did not stop her from embracing the game with passion and enthusiasm and became a quality hitter.  If she couldn’t catch the ball she would willfully throw her body in front of the ball to slow its progress.  What she lacked in skill she replaced with courage.  Bravo, Elizabeth.

Glue of the Infield Game Ball:  Ali McGlincy. Favorite Moment:  After hustling down the line on a close play at first and beating out the throw, Ali skinned knees with the first baseman that produced “third-degree” burns on her knee and made it difficult to run to second as the ball got passed the 1st baseman.  Halfway towards second base, Ali turned and let go a barrage of the “delicate” language we all know and love her for.  No one knew if it was aimed at the first baseman, her knee or just the pain in her leg.  Nonetheless, the opposition stayed clear of the Ali the rest of the game.  Ali was the leader of the infield and always understands the situation on the field and where the ball should be thrown.  As a former manager, she understands the subtleties of the game.  Bravo Ali

The Anchor Game Ball:  Kelly LeporeFavorite Moment.  Verbally beating the crap out of Jeff last night!  Actually… “Kelly got her groove back last night!!  Not only did she hit like an All-Star but her contribution at 3rd base was nothing short of game saving!  With Allan doing his best to nurse a 3-1 lead, Kelly made play after play at third base.  One in particular stands out.  Top of the 5th inning; score 3-1 and runners on first and second with 2 outs and their best hitter up who can also run like the wind.  He hits a rocket down the third base line.  Kelly backhands the ball and throws a rocket of her own to Nick at first.  If she doesn't make that play we probable lose the lead.  Instead, inning was over, Allan was out of a jam and King James was coming to the plate”!  Kelly anchored the left side of the infield all year.  Excellent glove and throwing arm and regularly contributed at the plate.  As I said earlier…Kelly’s glove is where triples went to die!Bravo Kelly.

Home Run King Game Ball: James Sammarco: Favorite Moment:  Long live the King!  With my write up last week, I put in a "no win" situation.  The home-run guaranty is tough to live up to.  Did James shrink from the challenge?  Did he go quietly into that good night?........Hell No!  Bottom of the 5th inning and the Ball Busters clinging to a 3-1 lead, the Staten Island kid steps up to the plate and smashes a 3-run home run!  6-1 Bachrach lead and the Ball Busters never looked back.  Hail the Conquering Hero!!!  James was the King of the long ball all season and had had many games where he it more than one home-run.  True flair for the dramatic.  Played short stop well until switching to Right Field.  Consummate team player.  Bravo James.

“Evolution” Game Ball:  Evan “Evolution” Price:  Favorite Moment:The Truth delivers!!!  In the most crucial moment of the night when all looked bleak, Evan game through with a bases clearing double that not only secured our come from behind victory but also eliminated our nemesis from the playoffs.  It was one of those moments when everything was on the line and we were down to our last out of the 6th inning.  If we fail in that moment, we probably lose the game.  The Truth game through with a bomb to right field that must have traveled over 325 feet, clearing the bases and proved to be the game winner”.  Evan was our DH/1st baseman this year and played exceptionally well.  Stellar first base play when filling in for Nick and came through in the clutch on many occasions with his bat. Bravo Evan!!

Team Player of the Year Game Ball:  Kim Antrosiglio: Favorite Moment: Sometimes contributions are more subtle than others with less fanfare but no less important.  Several times last night Kim found herself at the plate with runners on first and second with less than two outs.  In other words, being a right handed hitter, it is natural to hit the ball to third.  I asked Kim to see if she could push the ball up the first base line to allow the runners to advance and sacrificing herself for the good of the team.  Hitting the ball to the opposite field is tough for the best hitters and for Kim, who is a somewhat challenged-hitter, it’s even more difficult.  However, last night after a few failed attempts, Kim came through with a well-placed ball to the first base side that eventually set up Evan for his game winning heroics.  Kim is the total team player and it showed last night”.  Kim gave her all for the team all year long.  Juggled her schedule to make each game and had one of the highest on base percentage of anyone on the team.  Bravo Kim!

Pitcher of the Year Game Ball:  Allan Ageman:  Favorite Moment:  “Coming off a 3 run performance the previous week, Allan raised his game to a new level.  In one of the best pitching performance I have ever seen, Allan held the opposition, a formidable team stoked with great hitters, to one measly run.  An unearned run at that!  To pitch a 12 to 14 foot arc as consistently as he did was remarkable.  Getting most over for strikes.  He struck out 5 batters.  Allan had defensive help for sure, but he kept us in the game until King James iced it.  Outstanding Allan!”  Allan was a shoe in for this award because he was the “only” pitcher all year!  Seriously, Allan was the reason we won a large portion of our games by keeping us competitive until we found a way to win.  Excellent, consistent pitching performance throughout the year.  Bravo Allan!!

Outfielder of the Year: Oliver Hernandez: Favorite Moment:  “Oliver making a home-run saving, Willie Mays-like, over-the-head, back-handed catch in deep center field that took all of his athletic ability.  Sensational catch when we were actually losing 3-2 in the early innings.  Maybe the inspiration we needed”.  I wish I had a dime for every time Oliver made another eye-popping, dazzling catch in centerfield that was beyond belief.  Time and time again, he kept us in a game that was threatening to get out of hand.  Oliver was our anchor in the outfield with Scott and saved Allan a lot of runs throughout the course of the year.  Bravo Oliver!

Athlete of the Year Game Ball: Jordan Siegman: Favorite Moment:  The A-Rod comparison in this case is only a positive one.  Jordan makes fielding plays at shortstop look easy.  Very easy!  With a great glove and an arm that makes his throws look like they were shot out of a cannon, Jordan threw out runner after runner last night to the complete amazement of everyone watching.  My guess is Jordan’s arm is every bit as strong as the real A-Rod.  Masterful job a short last night.  His play short-circuited many attempted rallies by the opposition.  The only one who had an issue with Jordan last night was Nick.  He was on the receiving end of all those throws and even though almost every one was chest-high, Nick’s hand must have taken quite a beating last night.  Jordan was easily our best athlete and will be force to reckon with next year.  He is part a definite part of the future of this team. Bravo Jordan!

Leader of the Team Game Ball: Nick Catalano: Favorite Moment: “Nick returned to action last night after a one game hiatus to put on an exceptional hitting display that secured his place in the lineup and giving us a formidable top of the order to be reckoned with”.  In my opinion, Nick was the true leader of the team.  Whether it was writing up the batting order, ordering the uniforms, positioning the players or even designating the transportation to the field, it all, pretty much, revolved around Nick.  He gave of his time and effort to make sure we were all ready for any given week.  Bravo, Nick!

The Reserves

Hustling Haggy Game Ball: Scott Hechler: Favorite Moment:  “The wind in central park last night was created by the legs of Mr. Hechler.  Heeding advice from last week, Haggy ran the bases with reckless abandon.  He hustled on every play and did not stop to admire any of his hits.  It would have helped if he got on base but the effort was there and should be recognized.  Keep running like that Scotty-boy and good things will happen.  Well done, Scott”!  Scott was a starter until he pulled out because the games were ending past his bedtime.  He played a solid right field and was fleet a foot on the base paths.  Bravo, Scott!

Jersey Girl (Bergen County) Game Ball:  Lauren Haak: Favorite Moment:Behind every great pitcher stands a great catcher.  Let’s face it, catching SUCKS!  Especially for a women.  You have some over-weight, baseball wannabe right up your butt, breathing down your neck and some guy in front of you waving a metal or aluminum club.  Not an enviable position to be in (all jokes aside).  Then when you finally get to make a play at the plate and someone else takes the throw for you.  It is the most overlooked position on the field.  Not today.  Lauren did a superb job yesterday doing the small things that always go overlooked, they provided Allan a great target to pitch to, threw the ball back to Allan directly after every pitch so he could keep his rhythm and most importantly, kept Allan from a meltdown when he was protecting a two run lead for most of the game last night.  These are the small things that allow a team to win.  You did this seamlessly last night!!  Lauren was a sometime starter but fulltime believer in the dream.  Excellent hitter with a strong arm.  Serious softball player.  Bravo, Lauren!

Team Spirit of the Year Game Ball: Alex Roth: Favorite Moment:  “For reasons only known to her.  Alex let Lauren play and entire game behind home plate.  Even after being cajoled into playing, Alex was content to allow Lauren, who was playing superbly, to continue having fun.  Excellent example of sportsmanship and teamwork”!!  Alex is the embodiment of team play and support.  She came to every game and supported our efforts whether she played or not.  She freely gave up her position so someone else could get a chance.  If everyone had Alex’s spirit, there would be no need for armies!  Bravo, Alex! Our Fan Fan of the Year Game Ball:  Apollo Hernandez: Favorite Moment: “Oliver’s father not only showed up last night in full Yankee regalia but rooted for his son’s team like we actually were the New York Yankees.  His support for us was genuine and he had his “Proud Papa” moment when Oliver got us on the score boarded with his homerun.  He promised to return for the next game and I really hope he does”!!!  Apollo is genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever met.  He attended three games for us this year and win or lose he was happy just to lend his support.  Oliver’s dad and a real gentleman.  Bravo, Apollo! So that’s it.  The season is over.  All and all it was a lot of fun and we had a bunch of laughs.  God willing, we’ll all be able to come back next year and do it all over again!! Jeff

"How Does it Feel, How Does it Feel

To Be on Your Own, Like a Complete Unknown

Like A Rolling Stone"

Bob Dylan circa 1968

Last night, in astounding fashion, your Bachrach BallBusters once again failed to get out of the first round of the playoffs in suffering a humiliating loss at the hands of the tarp money fattened team from Barclays by a score of 18 to 6. The BB's knew something was afoot when the club from the world renowned bank arrived in limos and looked nothing like the teams they had seen in the past. There you go tax payers, your tax dollars hard at work buying Barclays an edso city championship and allowing there players to be chauffeured through town in limos while the BB's are left once again, picking up the pieces, and wondering what went wrong. It was a terrible performance all around. The older, out of shape BB's were no match for the best club American tax dollars could buy. This reporter was disgraced to be a part of it as the younger, shapely, tarp paid team ran circles around your heroes. The locker room was closed after the game last night and all interview requests were denied until further notice. Richard "The Boss" Bachrach did release the following statement, "Of course Hank, Hal and myself are very disappointed in yet another first round playoff loss. Its been a long season and like every other ball club we will be judged on our performance between the lines. The people of the Bachrach empire deserve a championship and nothing less is acceptable. We believe the team we put on the field was capable of delivering that and we apologize to the fans and assure them we are just as disappointed as they are, and will fully investigate the seasons short comings, and make any necessary changes."

Should be a busy off season for the bb's indeed. If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter!

Top 5 questions facing the bb's this off season

1. After another playoff disappointment will the boss still sponsor this club or will he look to sell them off? Could this be the end of your Ballbusters?

2. After the game the boss was seen ripping up a large document believed to be the "Freight Train's" managerial contract extension, rumors flew of the Freight Train on hands and knees trying to piece it back together. Some said he was screaming, "Evan (referring to the truth) where are my glasses, what does it say? Was it one or three years, damnit Evan get my glasses." Will the Freight Train be retained when his contract expires on September 1st? If not who will replace the human megaphone as field general?

3. Roster changes. Will there be any changes to the team on the field, the Ageless Wonder didn't look so ageless last night, the rigors of a 13 game schedule catching up with him. Will there be pregnant BB'ettes to deal with? Will there be hiring's and firings? Have the BB's gone as far as they can with this group of players?

4. What will they wear? Every season the Ballbusters seem to change uniforms. Some people were heard complaining that having a name on the back breeds individuality, will they change uniforms for the 4th time in 5 years to bring back a sense of team?

5. Will anyone actually get a drink after the game with Alex Roth?

Notes and quotes

Jordon Arod Seigman, after hitting a meaningless grand slam in the 6th once again proved that his nickname fits the bill. Who was that lovely mystery brunette taking in the game from the BB's dugout?
